| Mamie opened a boarding house in Hondo on the second floor of their large home. Her family lived on the first floor. She rented rooms to men who came to work on the railroad, teachers, and other single people. On one occasion she rented to a young woman who began to receive gentlemen callers in her room. This caused a bit of a scandal and no small embarrassment for Mamie. The young woman was sent packing. |
