Notes for Owen Guido (Pete) Schweers | During World War II Guido joined the Navy under the V-12 Program, receiving his officer's commission in 1944. He served in the South Pacific aboard the USS Altoona, an oil tanker, first as an Ensign and then a Lieutenant JG. He remained in the Reserves for about 10 years. He met Leann at Texas A&I, where he received a degree in Chemical and Natural Gas Engineering. They married in 1848 and Guido worked for Magnolia Oil (later Mobil) in the Texas oil fields. His work took the family to Kansas, Oklahoma, and Falfurrias, Texas. In 1961 they moved in Bay City. Despite the fact that he worked for most of his career in oil production, Guido was more interested in the utilization and transmission of natural gas. Eventually the family moved to Houston, though Guido had to work elsewhere for some of that time. Eventually he left the oil business and worked in security for 10 years before retiring. Guido lost his Leann to cancer in 1996. Two years later he himself died of cancer. |
