Notes for Kenneth Charles Chubb | Born in 1924, Nick grew up in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, and nearby Williamsport. He met Miriam on a blind date in Toledo, where he was working as a draftsman at the American Propeller plant. Nick was drafted into the Army Air Corps in 1943 and became a Staff Sergeant. His military career was plagued with illness. He developed pleurisy and a chronic lung disease, and got scarlet fever as well. After serving in Florida and several bases on the West Coast, he finally received a medical discharge. After the war Nick entered the University of Toledo, studying chemistry and physics. He and Miriam were married in 1947. In 1950 Nick took a job with Northwestern Steel and Wire and the family moved to Sterling, where they raised their two children. Later Nick and Miriam bought a cabin in the Adirondacks and began spending their summers there. They have always enjoyed the theater. Nick and Miriam still reside in Sterling. |
