Notes for Miriam Louise Wiederanders | The youngest of four children, Miriam was born in 1923 in a small town in Illinois where her father was a pastor. She met Nick on a blind date while she was attending the University of Toledo. When Nick went into the army they corresponded, but suddenly (during Nick's illness) his letters stopped coming. After several inquiries, Miriam assumed he was no longer interested in her. Fortunately, they ran into each other in the university bookstore after the war, and were married in 1947. Meanwhile Miriam had graduated with a degree in sociology and business. She became a social worker for Lutheran Social Services. When Jeff was born in 1948 Miriam became a full time mom. She and Nick raised their two children in Sterling. Later she took up her career again and worked for the State of Illinois, as well as private organizations, including a residential facility for disturbed children. In 1980 she completed her MSW at the University of Illinois. She then worked as a therapist at a mental health center, and later with the school system. Miriam has a lovely soprano voice, and sang solos with her church choir. She has always had a quick laugh and a great sense of fun. She and Nick enjoyed their cabin in the Andirondacks, and still enjoy attending the theater. They reside in Sterling. |
