Notes for Eileen Janis Durre | Eileen was born in 1924 in Ohio. She graduated from high school in 1942, shortly after Pearl Harbor. Having studied shorthand and typing, she got a work permit and went to work in the telephone company office in Fort Wayne, Indiana, during the war years. She and Carl married in her hometown of Payne in 1948. After Carl re-entered the Air Force in 1950, the family lived in Germany, Newport News, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Hawaii, and Mascoutah, Illinois. After Carl's untimely death, Eileen remained in Mascoutah, where she attended college for three years while raising their four children. Now retired, she continues to live there. |
