Notes for Fritz Rothe | Fritz emigrated in 1854 aboard the Salucia with his parents and siblngs. He had been an architectural student in Frankfurt am Main and had learned surveying there. In partnership with his three younger brothers, Fritz became a prosperous rancher. By 1900, the four brothers owned over 1000,000 acres of land and 16,000 head of cattle, plus horses and sheep. Fritz served in the Confederate army during the Civil War. In 1890 he moved to San Antonio for a few years so that his children, nieces, and nephews could attend schools there. There he implemented strict European discipline by posting a set of rules for the children to follow. |
