Notes for Guido F. Richter
Guido was the namesake of Guido Goldbeck (son of Bianca and Theo Goldbeck), with whom his mother Alice had played when they were childen in Mexico. Guido Richter was drafted into the Army during World War I. He served in the Medical Corps in Europe, tending wounded soldiers. He spent most of his tour in France after the armistice was declared. In his diary he recorded his enthusiastic reaction to the sights and shows of Paris: "Ooh la la!" The doctor he worked for in France urged him to go to medical school. Guido watned to become a doctor, but when he returned to Texas he learned that his brother Carl had died. Since his older brother Paul now lived in town, Guido felt it was his duty to move back to his parents' land and take care of them and the farm. Guido did not date until after his parents' death. During World War II he worked at the Hondo Airbase. It was during that time that he met Aleen Anderson Taylor, who was working at the courthouse. They were married in 19__, and lived at the Richter home on Route 1. After Aleen's death in 1972, Guido kept the house spotless. In later life he liked to go into town and talk to his older sister Alma, who outlived him by one year. He also had a close but occasionally contentious relationship with his sister Mimmi, who lived on the neighboring farm, and later in Hondo. He had a fondness for peppermint schnapps. Though Guido had no children of his own, he was a devoted godfather to his four godchildren.
