Notes for Ella Wiederanders | Ella recalled that, as a child, “her bedtime prayer compared God’s lovng care to the wings of a mother hen caring for her chicks. Having seen this done in the hen house, she was firmly convinced that at some time she had been a chicken.” Ella went to nursing school in Chicago. graduating in 1911, and worked as a private duty nurse. When her Minnie, her brother Carl’s wife, became ill, Ella went to Hecla, North Dakota, to care for her while Carl traveled his circuit. She later moved to Sterling to work at the hospital. She and Fred made their life there. Ella wrote a lively memoir containing an account of her mother Louise’s life. |
