Notes for Bertha Wiederanders | Bertha was confirmed April 7, 1895, in Grand Island, Nebraska. She never married. As a young woman she went to Chicago to find work, living with her two sisters. Her job as sales manager for a cosmetics company required her to travel extensively through Wisconsin, Ohio, and Minnesota. When she felt the need for a more ordered life, she moved to Milwaukee and worked as a secretary, living with her Aunt Emma (Trautsch) and Uncle Ernie Mohr. Later she moved to Sterling, where she lived in the basement apartment at her sister Ella's home. (Bertha had helped to finance the construction of the house.) |
