Notes for Carl Gustav Wiederaenders
Gustav became a journeyman lacemaker before leaving Germany, where as a young man he was found to be physically unfit for military service. In Texas he became a farmer, buying a farm on Rabb's Creek near Serbin around 1860. In 1862 he and his brother Edward were conscripted into the Confederate Army and fought together in the Third Texas Infantry. Gustav was killed in the Battle of Jenkins Ferry, Arkansas, in April, 1864. After the battle, Edward found Gustav's body and covered it with a blanket before marching on with his company.
