Confederate winter quarters in Manassas, Virginia. Edward’s brigade worked to consturct such quarters in Arkansas late in 1864, felling pine trees and hewing logs. But no sooner had they completed their work than they were ordered to turn the camp over to another brigade. Instead they had to camp on an unprotected hillside for the winter.
