Nicholas Zink (1812 - 1887) was Chief Engineer for the Society and one of the leaders of the expedition inland. The first settlers to reach New Braunfels named their temporary protective encampment ‘The Zinkenburg’ in his honor. Zink later left New Braunfels to build a cabin on Sister Creek, and later lived in Comfort and Fredericksburg.
